Following tracks from the break in the water conduit Commander Corey and Happy discover a giant 6 wheel atomic digging machine, driven by Burick and Grouse, explaining what had been destroyed to the Solaria water supply conduit. Corey and Happy land to investigate and are chased down and run over by the atomic digging machine.
Escaping by diving into a deep crevice Buzz and Happy blast off in Terra V and continue their search for both the Professor and the atomic digging machine.
Soon they find the sabotaged giant 6 wheel atomic digging machine in flames and the occupants Burick and Grouse gone in a spaceship.
Continuing their search for Burick and Grouse they are notified by Space Patrol headquarters in Solaria that Professor Mallison may have been located. Commander Corey and Cadet Happy investigate and find a small lab ship that has been crashed and while circling around they see a man in a space suit waving to them from a nearby cave opening.
After landing they find that it is Professor Mallison who reports the cave is the opening to a vast underground ice cave. Vast enough to provide enough water for Solaria thus negating the need to transfer water from the dark side of Mercury thousands of mile away.
Burick and Grouse intercept the radio message about the discovery of Professor Mallison and head to those coordinates. There they find Commander Corey, Cadet Happy and Professor Mallison coming out of the cave and in an attempt to kill them backs his ship into the cave entrance. The heat from the spaceship’s jets heat the ice and create steam which blows their ship out of the cave like a cork from a champagne bottle that has been shaken. Burick and Grouse are captured.
